Sean Heuston resized(Seán Mac Aodha)

21st Feb. 1891- 8th May 1916

One of the executed leaders of the 1916 Rising.

Seán  was executed by firing squad in the Stonebreakers yard Kilmainham Gaol on the 8th May 1916 at age 25 for his part in the Easter Rising.   He is buried in Arbour Hill cemetery.

Seán worked for the Great Southern and Western Railway G.S.W.R. at Kingsbridge Station in the Traffic Managers Office at the time of his execution.

  

Heuston Station Dublin (formerly Kingsbridge Station) was re-named in his honour in 1966 on the 50th anniversary of the Easter Rising.

He was assigned command at the Mendicity Institution on Easter Monday, tasked with holding off the troops from the Royal Barracks for as long as possible, preventing them from getting to the GPO.  He and his men held out for 3 days
